Abstract
Questionnaires were distributed to the sixty primigravida mothers chosen by simple random sampling from the list of mothers in the nurses' station. The level of knowledge of the sample on new born screening was determined based on the number of correctly answered questions on the five aspects of newborn screening education : the main purpose of newborn screening; the timing of screening; the process of communicating test results; the possibility of false-positive results; and consent. Proportion of the respondents with answers to each question were computed and interpreted.
The results showed that out of the 60 respondents, 16 had high level of knowledge, 24 had medium level of knowledge while 20 had low level of knowledge.
